Within a half an hour of inquiring, I had a job.
Within three hours of that I was working my first shift.
Now I'm tired and had to miss hanging out with cool people.
    But I can pay rent.

Sleeping for a full half of a day is wonderful. It only gets weird when you wake up at the buttcrack of dawn needing to do something but everyone else is quiet and asleep. Maybe this will be my time to run around the neighborhood being drunk and yelling something like "Fuck Notre Dame! Fuck! I'm fucking lost! Roar!!"

    An unexpected swim
Today I agreed to deliver board packets to a few of the co-ops around. I thought it would be a pretty easy task--walk up to the house, stuff the packet in some sort of mail device and be done with it. Well, I got about halfway to one, when suddenly, for no apparent reason, the clouds shat upon Ann Arbor. After 30 seconds I literally looked like I had just went swimming with all my clothes on. A woman with a wide-brimmed straw hat passed me and said in a really pleasant tone, "Isn't the day beautiful?" I figured since I was already soaked I may as well continue on and deliver the packets. The first house I stopped at was pretty empty and I couldn't even find their mailbox so I went inside and found a small woman who, in quite a thick accent yelled, "OH MY! You so wet!... Uh... Go change clothes now!" and her pointer finger directed me back out onto the porch. So much for that approach. There was a guy lounging on the porch, but he apparently didn't live there nor assumed any responsibility for anything in the house. He was, however, kind enough to show me where the mailbox used to hang and where it now rested on the front steps. I quickly threw the packets in and ran back into the monsoon to deliver the rest.

Earlier today I met a guy with a five foot snake on the diag. He let me hold it and told me that it would eventually grow to be 15 feet long. I might go visit the snake (named Samson) sometime. Is it rude to visit one's pet without first being friends with the owner? Is there some sort of etiquette rule for it? I could say, "Excuse me friend, I truly enjoy your company but I really would rather play with your snake." Somehow, I don't think that would come off so well.

I should really be studying, or making that giant poster, or taking a shower, or any number of things aside from listening to NPR and dawdling online. Ah, let the school year begin.

    First entry ever! Woo hoo!

Ok, here's my story for today. So I want to install these bamboo curtains that hang from my ceiling right? Well, I ask for help and I'm instructed (by multiple members of the house) to use these expanding screw thingies that can hold up a 500 pound baby elephant. Overkill? I wonder, but in the end decide to trust this suggestion instead of just hammering some nails in like I originally intended. So I go and get them from Jacks and I'm all ready with my screw driver to install them when I'm informed that you have to drill holes into the ceiling to get them in. I don't have a drill. We do have drill bits however, so the brilliant idea comes to us... attach something to the drill bit and do it by hand. Right. I've spent the last hour with a pair of vice grips clamping drill bits "drilling" into my ceiling. In the end it worked though, and although dusty and tired, I can now hold up my 20 lb. curtains by screws that can support several large mammals.

Also, I met someone yesterday that hiked the Chilkot trail as a camp counselor (repeat: as a camp counselor) and we had the most ridiculously nerdy conversation about hiking boots, tundra, and dirty camper diseases.
